The sky is our ocean, Bart M. Rijnhout, John P. Rennison, history of RAF 311 Czechoslovak bomber squadron. English language typescript of the Dutch book. It is an interesting read, especially in the light of modern research available today. Some information in this book is outdated now. To name just a few mistakes: 311 Squadron was visited by the Czech Inspector General W/Cdr Naprstek at Aldergrove on May 5, 1942, not May 16. Many sqdn. members' names are misspelled in the typescript: Kubisnak = Kubiznak, Sigos = Cigos, Kocvar = Kocman, Orkil = Orlik, Ourba = Uruba, etc. The death of Sgt. Brecka from Oct 8, 1942 is explained as an operational accident caused by enemy fighters. In real, Sgt. Brecka commited suicide in Wellington MkIC on the ground. Numbers regarding monthly totals also differ slightly, e.g. July 1944 as the typescript has them: 25 operational days, 102 sorties, 995 hours flying, 130.000 nautical miles compared to newer research: 25 operational days, 101 sorties, 940 hours flying, 130.000 nautical miles. List of RAF personnel under training at No. 111 OTU in Nassau on June 30, 1944: 276 officers and 1970 other ranks in the typescript compared to 285 officers and 2028 other ranks (including 33 Czechoslovak RAF airmen - 9 officers and 24 other ranks) in recent research. The last Czechoslovaks left the Bahamas on July 11, 1945, not in August as the typescript claims. There is much more outdated information in the text but it is only a typescript - I believe, actually, that this is an English draft sent to then Czechoslovakia for corrections. The mistakes may have been corrected and the completed book may be accurate.
