Z-37 T manufacturer: Moravan Otrokovice. The Zlin Z-37 T agricultural, forestry and waterworks aircraft serves for carrying out aerial work in all three branches of economy, mainly those connected with spreading fertilizers, protecting crops and forests against weeds, diseases and pests, and sewing grain and seeds of other agricultural plants.
After some modifications the aircraft can be employed for transporting cargoes.
The design of the Z-37 T aircraft is based on that of its successful predecessor, the Z-37 A Bumblebee model. Common design components are used in both aircraft as far as possible.
Main specifications:
wing span 12.72m
length 10.25m
height 3.20m
empty weight 1200kg
maximum take off weight 2400kg
payload of chemicals 800kg
take off run 240m
take off distance to 15m altitude 450m
landing distance from 15m altitude 460m
roll out 190m
operating speed range 145-165km/h
range 320km
environment temperature range -35 to +45C

A special powerplant has been developed for the Z-37 T aircraft. It consists of a Walter M 601 Z turboprop engine flat rated at 360kW (490hp) and of a variable pitch propeller Avia VJ 7-508 Z with three blades. The engine carries an auxiliary power outlet rated at 30kW with constant speed for powering agricultural implements.
The fuselage of the Z-37 T aircraft is a latticework structure welded together of steel tubes. The fuselage nose section is covered with easily removable hoods, the rear fuselage section carries a canvas auxiliary power unit which serves as an external electric power supply and as a pump for pumping fuel into aircraft tanks.
The wing is subdivided into three sections: the left wing, the right wing and a centre section which accomodates two fuel tanks with a capacity of 175 litres each. For ferry flights the aircraft can carry 500 litres of fuel in underslung fuel tanks.
The fuselage frame and the entire aircraft are painted with polyurethane paint protecting the aircraft against influence of chemicals.
The cockpit carries all necessary instruments and controls for steering the aircraft and controlling its power plant and agricultural implements.
The agricultural implement is controlled by a switch on the control stick and by a clutch switch installed on the engine power control lever. The clutch does not engage until adequate pressure has been reached in the aircraft compressed air system. There are controls in the cockpit for controlling the pressure of liquid chemicals, for dosing bulk chemicals, for opening and closing the lid of the hopper and for jettisoning chemicals in an emergency.
To the rear of the hopper there is adequate space for transporting another person (mechanician) to the operating airstrip.
The agricultural implements of the Z-37 T aircraft consist of a hopper for chemicals with 1000 liters total capacity, of a spraying gear and of a rotary dusting gear. The hopper is installed behind the pilot cockpit. Spraying gear with spraying nozzles permits to dispense aqueous solutions for pretecting crops against weeds, deseases and pests or for fertilizer application on the leaf at delivery rates from 2.4 to 18.0 liters per second. The spraying gear tank is equipped with an emergency outlet for liquid chemicals.
The emergency outlet for liquids permits to employ the aircraft for fighting fires.
The rotary dusting gear is used for spreading fertilizers in loose, crystallinic or granular form, for dispensing pesticides against diseases and pests and for sawing grain and seeds of other agricultural plants.
The rotary duster can be jettisoned in an emergency to empty the hopper with chemicals.
The total operating width is during:
spraying - 50m
atomizing - 60m
dusting with granular fertilizers - 40m
dusting with crystallinic fertilizers - 35m
The maximum effective operating width is during:
spraying - 25m
atomizing - 40m
dusting with granular fertilizers - 30m
dusting with crystallinic fertilizers - 25m
Jettisoning of chemicals 3 - 5s
